Received a Tesoro Vaquero for Christmas. I am totally new to metal detecting, so I took it into our backyard today just to get a feel for it and figure out the controls. First off, what an addictive hobby. I was exciting just digging up an rusty bolt and nail after 5 minutes. I realized the excitement of not knowing what you are about to pull up as the Pinpointer beeps down in the hole. Fun stuff! At any rate, after about 30-45 minutes in my backyard, I found this thing about 12" down in the soil, pretty deep. Kinda heavy, about 3-5 lbs. I think. I am attaching some photos if anyone can tell me what this thing is. I am looking forward to the excitement of the hobby. Had a blast in my own backyard in one hour. :) Thanks

Welcome to Treasure net.

As far as your find is concerned ... I personally have no clue.

Looks like a tractor related part. but ?

Someone may chime in on this one.

The unknown as you start to see it in the hole is fun! As I live in the South with Civil War battles fought in the area, you can imagine the first thought that popped into my head as I saw only the first point sticking up out of the hole..... Bayonet.... Ha, the imagination can make this fun.... :)

That's funny. I was out this past fall and got a really strong hit in an area that had used as the evacuation route for southern forces from Charleston. As I began digging the signal I found a wide rolled loop. It initially appeared to be the attachment end of a bayonet and I thought "NO WAY!". I was right...no way! After digging it all out turns out it was the hinge point on a early 20th century metal railroad signal box door. I found the round end of something thinking bayonet and you found the pointy end thinking bayonet...and no joy for either of us! LOL
