I found both of these the same day metal detecting under the floor boards of an old home. I believe they are both from WW1. But I cannot find anything about what appears to be a medal. The top is broken off where a ribbon may have been. From the top going right is Pres Poincare, King George, King Emmanuell and Tzar Nicholas and the WW1 era button was lying on top of the ground as you see. the medal was about 2" down. Can anybody help me here?

The button is a great seal button they started making them around 1903 to present day if I'm not mistaken and I swear I've seen that medal somewhere before but I can't put my finger on it

Hey hilljack,

This is a very cool piece. You didn't mention the size, nor show the back. I'm guessing it might be a fob.

I'm always amazed by the doppelgänger Emperors Nicholas & George.

they were related --the Russian and English royal family were kin

Thought that medal was going to be an IOOF (Odd Fellows) medal, that was the style they used. What's the backmark on your great seal button? Can get the age from the backmark.

Surf is on the right track. I can read Czar Nicholas on the left and King George on the right. Still can't make out the top and bottom guys. Watch fob.

Hapsburgs were all related --Germany kieser weilhem , Russia czar Nicholis , king George of England and one other

I think the guy at the top is Pres. Poincare of France.

The guy at the bottom is King Emmanuel of Italy. These guys were the 4 main allies in WWI.

ok makes sense -- WW1 era European "allies" victory medal or watch fob type item

Oddly, most of the other propaganda materials show Belium's King Albert instead of the Italian guy. But I'm pretty sure it says "King Emmanuel" on the fob.

This is early WWI propganda material.

winner winner chicken dinner *--think its "solved" WW 1 era allies type watch fob -- fits nicely with the "great seal button" which would have been used in WW1 as well.

Look closely at the Great Seal button. Appears that it might have black paint on it. That in itself would put it at WWI button from what I understand. I dug one that the black paint was a little more obvious and one of amazing ID Gurus put it as WWI.:icon_thumleft:

"Sorry it took so long to get back. Work has been pretty crazy the last 2 weeks. It is 1 1/2" long from top to bottom. going across top 1', At the widest with 1 1/4" . There are no markings that I could see on the back.
