Found it in a ghost town that witnessed The Mexican Revolution. It is an old railroad town that was a stop for WWI and WWII soldiers as well.

Nice find Diggerbutt... I still can't find anything online but as soon as I do I'll let you know. Tell your hubby any times you guys want to hunt our honey hole to give me a shout...

Thanks Texas Yank! I've looked to ID it, I'm usually pretty thorough; but I need the help with this one. Anytime you want to hunt together is fine by me. I'm a strange one though. The hubby uses detector, and I dig on a hunch.

I assume some type of medal ribbon top.

Thank you for your response Crusader. That thought crossed my mind about the possibility that it is part of a medal, but I couldn't find one like it. I don't know what time period it is either.

It looks more like a patriotic/sweetheart type, & not offical Military. Try WWII first & then WWI period, its no older than the latter.

Reminds me of a Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) badge or medal. GAR items usually have an eagle on them.

It's the top of a veterans badge from the Spanish American War (I think.... it's not a perfect match but there may be variations)... It would have looked similar to this one when it was complete, maybe if you're lucky the rest of it will turn up nearby :

Thanks NOLA-Ken!!! I was really clueless about this! I compared your picture, and it is very similar. Just curious, how did you come by way of your badge or pic of badge?

The badge in the pic isn't mine, it's an image I found online but I have had similar ones over the years. If you search ladder badges on google images you'll get a lot of different examples showing up. They were really popular at one time and were made for everything from veterans groups to fraternal groups like Masons all the way to school bands. Our military still uses them for marksman badges.

Yeah, I had earned something similar years ago going through firearm classes and training.
