Need help with Minelab Explorer XS-- Power up issue

I have a Minelab Explorer Xs & used about a dozen times over past 4 years. Today got it out and powered it up.. start up was fine but started to shut it off & it wouldn't turn off. I then turned the unit on again but nothing happened..it wouldnt power up. Then I replaced the batterys but knowing that this wasn't the issue. Its dead in the water... I'm really pissed !!! Anyone ever have similiar problems with their Minelab detectors Are these detectors know to give problems like this Maybe a new Whites or Garrett would be a wiser choice. I'm open for suggestions if anyone knows what the possible problem could be with my Minelab. Thanks
