✅ SOLVED Need help with lock maker or age

Found a lock and wanted to know if anyone could ID the maker or even give an age estimate. I've found very few locks ever and don't know a lot about them. Thanks for looking.

Not sure. Until someone offers a positive ID, Google and see if you find a lock with that shape of keyhole cover.

Are those letters above the USA? From the last picture it looks like _RCo. If they are letters I'm not sure what the first one is. Maybe hold it at a low angle with the light behind you and see if you can make it out. That plus the unique shape of the keyhole cover should narrow down the ID.

Here is one posted on ebay. I looked for “heart locks”. If they are correct it is from the 1800s. Nice find!

Thanks for the great detective work. I looked on and off for a few days and realized there were a ton of different locks made in times gone by. I'd say this one is solved. Thanks again.

The place where I found it is full of 1800s goodies so I believe it dates to that time.
