Need help with identifying this find

Found this small dime sized piece very deep while detecting today. It was within 5 feet of where I found a 1894 barber quarter last week. It is quite heavy for its size. At first I thought maybe a horseshoe rodeo pin or something. Now upon further examination it looks more like a shield maybe. Found in close proximity to a town that the military kept the peace at after the civil war near Abilene Texas.

With you saying its heavy for its size I would assume it to be lead. Try looking here (Sgt Riker's Civil War Trading Post - Insignia and Pins ), it shows some soldier art. Thats my guess.

Thank you for that link, I believe it is probably what it is. I wouldn't know how to try to clean it and not sure if it would reveal anything else anyway. With the iron and concrete like sandstone I dug through to get to this thing I'm calling it treasure. Thanks again!
