I have been working on my mineral ID but missed with this. Bought at a thrift store for a dollar. thought it was serpentine (wrong). Will not scratch with a nail. Cut it and it is consistent through out. Does not splinter or break into any defined shape. No light at all through the small cut piece. It looked interesting and had been worked by someone as there are visible grind marks and an applied clear coat(since removed). It is hard and looks as though it will take a nice polish. What are your thoughts.

Some kind of quartz/chalcedony with inclusions? Break of a small piece - need to see what luster it has.

Thanks Guys, it seems that is what it is. I am going to cut it and tumble the pieces.

P9160002.JPG Cut up, tumbled and holes drilled to make pendants. If any of you have an idea what this stuff is I'd like to hear it. I am back to thinking serpentine as it is not as hard as the chalcedony and petrified wood we did. Putting holes in stones with a dremel shows you QUICKLY which stone is harder then the other.P9160001.JPGI appreciate any input as I would like to tag this stuff with the correct name.
