Found this on the beach the other day. Looks to be a tie bar for a neck tie. Has a fouled anchor flaned by laurel leaves and a five pointed crown. Can anyone ID it and give me an idea of year? I'm guessing very late 1800's to early 1900's. Maybe British or Canadian?

Yep, some royal navy, but might be UK-held country's navy...?

My feeling is that this is a decorative item (perhaps a tie-clip) in a generic 'nautical' theme with deliberate variation from Royal Navy emblems (whether British or British Empire) to evade 'Crown copyright' restrictions.

My thoughts as well.

The "crown" atop the emblem is actually not a crown... it is a version of Coronet. (Coronets are worn by members of the Nobility -- such as a Duke or a Count -- not by Royals.) Therefore, the emblem does not represent any nation's navy. I agree with Red-Coat and Crusader... it is a "nautical-themed" decorative emblem, similar to the faux Nobility/Royalty/Heraldry emblems used on Fashion buttons.

Thanks for the great info everyone!

Any idea of age? No spring clip on the back, just a solid bar, open on one end.

Like I said, hard to say as it came from the beach but it came out in an area known for some good Navy relics (1700's to early 1900's buttons) as well as some old coins shoe buckle frames and even some 1700's cufflinks and some mid century merchant marine buttons (British and US) That was why I was on the track of thinking it might be some kind of official uniform item since a lot have been dug in the same stretch of beach. All a product of previous dredging that likely hit a "sweet" spot and drug up some good stuff from the deep!

I would say tie pin from the early 1900s.
