Sure looks like an old fishing reel.. :o...like an ABU GARCIA from the 40's or 50's.....I have one from the 60's and appears similar.

The size of a half dollar? ???

Isn't that a bit small for a fishing reel?

I still think it's an old electrical timer. I will try to find one and take pic. I still don't have electric from Wilma, and my generator is finicky at best.

I believe the parts with several small holes act as brakes..... when the bait is cast out the brakes slow down the speed of the cast so that a backlash is less likely......

I found an appliance timer motor and took a pic of it. I believe you have an older version of a timer motor.

Washer or refrigerator timer motor. Look at the little gear on the side. What would this exposed gear be doing on a fishing reel? Also the size.
