I use all metal everywhere but at the beach, where I use jewelry mode

Don't swing too slowly- if you do, the Ace won't pick up the target. About a foot per second as recommended in the manual is good.

With time and practice, you'll learn the Ace and the finds will start coming up

The Ace will absolutely find old coins and jewelry within its depth range.

If you have good sites, just keep working them over

I don't know why I can't find any silver.Ive dug at what seemed like good places and all I get is clad today about 1.50 (I know that isn't all bad)I use a ace 250.Just today I started using all metal mode and that seemed to work OK.I was wondering what other people set there ace at to find all the cool stuff posted here. Thanks and H.H.

Kevin, I just got my Ace for Xmas and am finding about the same as you right now. I just think we need more practice. But Mr Bling's idea to not swing too fast is spot on.

Hi Kevin & Wildheat

#1 thing to do if find a place which dates Prior to 1965, since the last silver coins
were made in 1964.

#2 check Court House & Tax records to find out when buildings were built, those are
to Great sources of info. about the property.

#3 check out a Pg. alot of us members put to gether
http://forum.treasurenet.com/terra > scroll down to:
PLACES TO METAL DETECT and check out the list.

#4 its not your machine that your having troubles with, its the
locations that your going out and hunting at.

#5 your playing a game of hide and seek w/ time, and you have
to do your research, when it comes to finding the goodies.

my advise to you is RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH,
talk to elderly folks at nursing homes since they lived during those
times, and were told stories by there parents and grand parents about
what happened back in there times and revieled locations of places
from those times.

how i set up my ace 250 was to view the settings in the jewlery mode
and copy those settings to the custom mode since it saves your settings
. then i place one of the newer pennies on the ground and swing over it
and discremenate it out, don't worry you'll still find them clad pennies
they will show up as being in the Dime catagory, but you just elimated
more of those trash finds.

Ok if you are comfortable with all metal mode, try out the Jewelry mode for awhile. Dig everything in Jewelry. You will be surprised at what you find. NOW when it reads Pull tabs dig them too. Gold sometimes shows up in the pull tab range. Like I said dig everything. JE mode will surprise you. Sometimes you will get tired of digging pull tabs, but it is that one time you don't dig that pull tab a 14k ring is sitting there. Some folks will disagree with me about digging everything, but it works.

Looks like there's nothing wrong with your detector. When you see all those 'cool finds on here', what you're not seeing is the pile of clad and the mounds of trash that we dig for every piece of 'cool' stuff we find! Just put in more time, the good stuff will come. Be careful about what you discriminate out. Jewelry mode is the most I would discriminate. And remember - I once found a gorgeous 18k bracelet that showed up as 'foil' and sounded like crap - sure glad I dug it anyway!

Good Luck -
Kilika

ok first location is everything * because unless "good stuff" was lost there good stuff is not going to be found there . :icon_sunny:

for silver coins look for gathering points where people gathered and were active ****--like old swimming holes . picnic grounds , fair and carny areas and old schools that predate 1965 *--- silver was cut out in 64 * --and it dried up rapidly *from pocket change.

for jewelry -- sports feilds , swimming holes and other "active" places --as well as old schoolds (class rings)

for relics--- old places and battle areas

be warned due to serious "overlap" in metal conductivity levels --- small gold items often ring up as foil --- mid sized gold rings up as pulltabs ---and bigger stuff as "nickles" --- because of this if you hunt gold --you will have to dig trash --lots of it per bit of gold .

silver is at the high end -- squashed beer cans come in as a dollar --but raising the coil say 4-6 in --if its a coin this will cause it to drop out -- the larger can target will stay in --try it some time .

use a slower but smooth and steady swing as well --most folks swing way too fast not giving the machine a fair chance to really look at the ground --its a metal detector not a weed whacker or a golf club !!! that u type swing is wrong -- needs to be more side to side shuffle a inch or so off the ground .

Nice finds!
The silver will come as you learn your machine.
Follow the suggestions that others have posted above
and you'll find your silver. But be aware that the clad is
usually a lot easier to find than silver unless you're searching
an area that pre-dates clad and pop-tops.

I've had the 250 for a couple weeks now and all the advice given is great, but my best settings so far, is custom, with 5cent and 1cent(gold range) and 10 cent to 50cent(silver range) you will find all coins with these settings, just my settings so far, I also have the 9X12 coil. HH gl

Not all places are going to produce silver. :icon_study: Research helps. I think we all get silver droughts now and then. I hunt alot and go for weeks or longer with no silver. I hunt in the coin mode. Everyone has their own way of hunting. I set my sensitivity up to almost max. If the place is virgin with no trash, i hunt all the way. If you get one beep one way and not the other way then work in a circle to see if you can get a consistent beep. Experience and time 100's of hours of swing time is the best teacher. Even though the ace 250 is simple to use you still have to know more than just swinging and getting a good beep. I have passed over one area and gone back and found something another time. I work in all patterns. X , straight line, back and forth, diagonally, etc. All i can say is it will take time and patience. Don't rush while you detect. Nice and easy but not to slow or fast

please DO NOT discriminate out zinc pennies with your ace, that would be a horrible mistake, most indian pennies I found when I used my ace signaled under the same as a zinc cent, plus a gold ring I found registered as a zinc penny, be very careful when you discriminate, some of your BEST finds will register as junk.

Ive had my ACE 250 since last July and have only found three silver dimes and one silver ring.
I found my only mercury dime in a new park and my two silver Roosevelt dimes were found at
an 1859 house. I guess I'm trying to say if they're not there your not going to find them, try more
places. I used to find more silver coins in the cash register at work, but I'm still new and I think
the silver will come when I find the right places. When I first started I only used coin mode and would ignore
all the signals for pulltabs and nickels and such because I would mostly get foil. I started using jewelry mode the other
day and got a signal bouncing around the nickle notch and it turned out to be my first gold ring.
Watch the video on you tube on how to detune the ace 250, it helps greatly with pinpointing your finds.

I figure if you haven't found silver its because you just might not have put the coil over it!! I own one but don't use it to hunt for anything but clad and its killer on gold!! I have a couple friends who find silver in the 5-8 inch range which means when you do hit a piece of silver you will dig it!! Just practice practice practice and find an older Park/school/yard and just enjoy yourself!! It will come and when you least expect it!! Good Luck!

Thanks everone for the information I will keep trying. I have found one silver ring and a few Wheaties but not the cool coins everone else is finding.

I have to agree with everyone that has posted a reply. I like to hunt older spots and I know Michigan has plenty. Go to the library and look for the old plat maps. Look for county plat maps from the 1800's. Find your county, maybe a couple more close by you. I have five copied five counties and all the townships close to me. I put all this information in a folder and carry it with me where ever I go. These maps can tell you where the old houses, churches, and one room schools houses were back in the early days. What you are looking for are the sites that held one of the above. Hopefully they aren't standing anymore. The ones that are standing, most of the time have been hunted to death. BUT, the ones that have been torn down are the GOOD ONES. It will take you a little time to locate them, but you will, get out of the car, look around for flag stones or red bricks. These are all signs of something that once stood in that location.

Just remember, one room school houses were two miles from each other. They all started in section 16 of a township and went two miles in each direction. I'm am positive that you will find many, many silver and Indian head pennies at these locations. It just takes some research on your part. Remember also that you must get permission to hunt these sites. I bet after you talk to some farmers they will even give you other sites to hunt.

My first year using my ACE 250 which was way back in 2006, I found over 4,000 clad coins and over a 100 silver coins, not to mention a 6 pound cannonball. I am including a picture of my finds from 2006. I also found a really neat War of 1812 officers Sterling Silver button.

The Ace 250 goes deep. I have found coins at 10+ inches with it. You just have to swing the coil over silver for it to find silver. If it ain't beneath the coil, no detector can find it.

Come to think of it, I have only found one silver coin this year.

That ace is a great machine. I found merc dimes at almost 8 inches with mine. So it will find silver. Just remember that EVERYTHING has been hunted. When i started i didn't think anyone did this. Now it seems like everyone has a detector. My best advice is to network with your friends and family. Find out who has an old house and get permission. Oh, co-workers too. Houses will be where you find your best and most finds. Set the ace to 5 sens and dig anything 4 inches plus. Jewelry is the best program til you are comfortable calling yourself an expert with the ace. GL.

Just got the ace 250 myself a matter of days ago, and I have about 2 1/2 days under my belt with it so far. I know it seems tedious to keep digging up pull tabs and what not, but I trust, being a newbie, that these guys on here who have been using them for years know what they are talking about. It may take getting through 90% trash to get to the 10% treasure, and that is the fun of doing it! Dont set any expectations for the day, just allow yourself to be surprised when IT happens!

Keep On Keepin On
