I picked up this map at goodwill today for $4

Says it's a historical of Nantucket from 1869

I can't tell if it's a repro or not. Taking the back of the frame off and looking at the paper and man does it look old. Doesn't look like any modern port I have seen and I used to be a service manager for a copier company for 12 years so I have seen a lot of paper lol

I have found one site that has one for $5400

but it has no color. I can not find another color one any where. What do you think can someone help me out a price on this map?

just my two cents by far no expert but if the map was printed in 1869 or any time around that I don't know why you would label it "historical" but doesn't mean it still isn't old

By historical it means the history of Nantucket from the time it was settled until 1869. It lists all major events from 1602 from 1869

I'm guessing there probly isn't a huggggge market for conterfit Nantucket historical maps.
I'd say take a close look at the printing and the paper normally the best tell for age.

Also my go to......... google the crap out of the maps title ......if you find 1500 of them online vs zero online you should have a pretty good idea if it's worth looking into professionally.

If there is copys of it out there you can bet others have google it.

(Update) I just did a quick Google search and I can't find a colour version anywhere ethier I would tottally suggest taking it into a pro : )

The (colorless) one selling for $5,400 is probably the original; the color renditions are probably later copies--IMO.
The map is truly 'historic' based on the information the map provides; including the location of oid settlements, Indian burial grounds and whaling stations.
Don........

I love it. Lived in Rhode Island a few years. You may want to get some professional help.

I just want to remind you that you or I could put any price I want on a map. We could ask $10,000. It doesnt mean much. You need to search those that actually sold or that have bids on them.
