I dug this buckle at a site near an 18th century ferry crossing on the CT river near Essex CT. I don't have it handy for measuring but it's about 2"s wide and 2 1/2" tall and made of sand cast brass. It has all the symbols you could ask for, a crown at the top, tudor rose at the bottom, fleur dis lis on the sides with thistles below and the lion and unicorn above. Wondering if any ones seen one before or knows anything else about it. Thanks for any ideas.... Dave

It has an odd orientation... The only thing I can think of is it is a sword sling buckle.

Sorry the pic is not better.

The sling buckle on this belt has lions heads on them in thr same orientation as your buckle. This belt is 1832 - 1844.

You should consider sending a PM to Crusader on this one.
