I have a friend on FB that dug this coat size button out of an old site. It is apparently a New Jersey button but not sure what the S P is for. Looked in Albert's with no joy. Has a Scovill MFG Co Waterbury BM. Any help?

Looks older than something the New Jersey State Patrol might have had since they did not stand up until 1920.

I may be wrong, but I do believe that is a New Jersey State Seal State Police button. No idea of the age but a bit of research will likely get you on the general Era.

Traveller777 is correct... your find is a New Jesey State Police uniform button. It has the NJ State Seal emblem in the center of the button's face.

Also, it is not too old to be a NJ Stae Police button. Scovill used the "Scovill M'fg. Co. Waterbury" backmark right up until it stopped making metal buttons in the 1960s. (I can't remember exactly which year in the '60s.)

Thanks Cannon.

Here in next few weeks, I have some remnants from around some Civil war sites I would appreciate your opinion on. Have a great day.
