I recently found an early puppy paw US Civil War buckle and found these 2 items in the same vicinity. The first is what appears to be a brass plate. At first I thought it was scrap, but now I am not so sure. When researching buckles of the civil war, I noticed there is something called a 'sheet brass' plate that the Confederates used. This plate measures roughly 2.5" x 3.5" and appears to be shinier on one side than the other. 2 of the corners are cut, while the other 2 are square. There are 2 dimples where it looks like something was attached at some point as you can see in picture 3. Could this be a brass sheet plate?
Item 2 is a buckle, but no idea what kind. It pivots in the middle, but also pivots where that loop is on the left side of the buckle in the pictures. The buckle measures roughly 2" x 1.25" Any ideas? As always, thanks for the help!
