Hello,

We found this iron rod about 22 feet down our dig. One of the diggers tried to pull it out but could not do it. Accordingly it was very difficult to pull out. They went on digging until they were able to pull it out 4 feet later. The rod is about 5 feet high and had some markings on the side. Do these marks mean something?
Would really appreciate some info.

Thanks

Looks to me like a piece of rebar, and the mark is the casting mark
applied by the mill that produced it.

Yep, it's rebar. A rebar (short for reinforcing bar) is a common steel bar that is commonly used as a tension device in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures, to strengthen and hold the concrete in compression. It is usually in the form of carbon steel bars or wires, and the surfaces may be deformed for a better bond with the concrete. It is also known as reinforcing steel and reinforcement steel.[SUP][1][/SUP]

It's rebar, it's modern, and it means you are digging through new flood material.

Thanks for the info guys. I also agree with all of you. it is a rebar. However, it is very unusual for this to be located 22 feet below the surface and to be in a straight vertical position. When I bought my farm in the southern part of the Philippines, it used to be full of shrubs and undeveloped. I had to rent heavy equipments to clear the area. We did some gold detecting and the detector indicated presence of buried gold.

We are just confused with what is the meaning of this and what is a single rebar doing underground. It is a bout 5 feet high based on the condition of the ground, it would physically impossible for it to be hammered down. We tried pulling it out when a foot was showing but could not do it.

Still searching for some answers regarding this.
