first off... typing in all caps is considered shouting (and its difficult to read)

second... what is a resaca? are you talking about a muddy sinkhole, dry lake, or are you looking at the battlefield @ resaca, is it a place, or a specific type of terrain?

a little more description would be helpful.

I assume he is talking about muddy sinkhole. But I wondered the same thing as spez401.

How deep do you think the target is?

Are there trees in the area around it?

Is it just you that is wanting to retrieve it? or do you have someone to help you?

How large of an area of mud or quicksand are we talking about?

Give us some more info. We don't need GPS coordinates or even your state.

There is not enough information to answer your question.

All though I don't know what a resaca is
other then Spanish for Hangover,

IF it's alot of Mud.
Try Snow Shoes, Or a long wide Board &
crawl out on it.

RASACA is either a Spanish word for hangover or a civil war battle in Georgia. In either case, what the poster is referring to I do not know.

If you are working near quick sand or sink holes.....carry a inflatable beach ball in your pocket and blow it up if you fall in....it will keep you up.

I would think that a childs snow saucer would work good for hauling out something

If you do fall in ....float on your back distributing your weight evenly ...dont try to swim it just pulls you under .....fill your lungs with air if going under...it will pull you back up to surface....

How just putting a big inner tube around yourself and wading out to your target......

I would be wanting to crawl out of that.

HI LUV, doesn't my bestest buddy Gollum already have an integral one?? Maybe chris can talk him into helping.

Obviously a lot more info would help. Seems to be a concurrance it's a muddy hole of some type and there are some doable solutions to getting out there. Next would be the depth of the "find". Then the method of retrieval would have to be determined; is it a box, a tool, a small personal item, or a bulldozer?

A bit more info would us help you Chris ;)

sorry guys for the weak info. a resaca is a dry riverbed that used to be connected to a major river and due to nature no longer is but the water is still there. the object retrieving would be several chests containing coins. however the exact weight or such is unknown. yes there are trees and palm trees around it and the bottom is more like mud and can sink very easily. however the depth of the resaca is like 10 feet maybe could be more the chests are close to the edge maybe 2-4 feet out of the edge. the resaca is about in feet could say 50-60 feet wide, and the other resaca where the other stuff is is like maybe 20-30 feet wide and yes there are 3 of us doing this.
thanks guys
chris

pretty good point there gypsyheart until somebody mentioned trees that came into mind. now there a two resacas one of them has no trees and the other one does. you think by cable would still be o.k. and personally yanking it out. a person would have to go into the resaca and the person would also have to tied and yanked out right?

Truck wench. Let someone down on a rope, from a boat, to secure the cable.

Use a drag line for retreiving...

And wattle works well for walking or crawling.

Also you can use a metal rod for probing in the mud to find larger objects.

Everyone else pretty much covered what I would do.

More questions...Ask. :)

Curious, how do you retrieve a skeleton that has an intertube around it and anchored to a chest in deep mud with out destroying the skeleton? ;D

So... the items are underwater? and in the muck?

How deep is the water? (SCUBA may be required) How far under the muck are they? Are you sure on the location? (ie... know the objects are there, either with a detector, probe, metal rod, etc)

When you start narrowing down the specifics you'll be able to plan your strategy for removal. But before you do anything - SAFETY FIRST. This shouldn't be a fly by the seat of your pants operation. don't think that a guy on shore will be able to pull you out of the mud (if that is what is present). Safety gear, safety harnesses, etc are A MUST.

Good luck in the retrieval. By all means, keep asking questions. But be careful. We don't want to read about 3 guys who drowned in a sinkhole because the clothesline they were using as a safety line snapped ;D
