hi all
i figured this would be the right forum to ask my question.
i live on longisland and have just got into beach detecting.
i dont think there is realy any place to nuggett hunt around here.
i guess i am doing it the lazy way by looking on ebay for gold nuggets but my question is there any way to tell
(by looking at the pics in the adds or what the seller writes in the add) if these are real gold nuggetts. and is it a good idea to even buy them off ebay?
any help would be appreciated.

OK, I don't know many of the answers. A year ago or so there was some some talk on the 49er's forum and the Goldbay.com forums about counterfet nuggets. I don't remember all the tells; you will have to do your research. But one thing I remember was that you need a 30x or more maginefier to see some of the flaws. I would say that you should be careful on e-bay. I think gold bay should be pretty safe.

Post the links to the ones you think are questionable, and I'll try and help.

Go to GoldBay.com for great GUARANTEED real gold at very reasonable prices. There are several articles posted by dave on phoney nuggets and man made.Sleeze bay is the absolute worst place to buy and 90% of buyers wouldn't know a real nugget if'n it bit 'm on the behind.I am not affiliated with by or for GoldBay,I don't even know Dave but his reputation is 100%-just proven most honest site on the net.John

It looks good, and its a little over 1/2 pennyweight, alittle under 1 gram, depending on which method you are comfortable with. Probably about 20 bucks by weight. A bit worn out from work right now, too tired to do the math. If it's something you really really like, maybe pay as high as 30 for it.

There is so much gold out there right now, I wouldn't worry if this one passes you by, there's always more.

That Goldbay site looks pretty good, as well. Haven't done business with either one though. Hoser is right, lot of ripoffs on Ebay, but this guys positive feedback rating is reassuring.

Hope this helps, good luck. :)

thanks for your help. i wish there were places around here to go looking for gold nuggets but i will have to stick to the beaches here (about 100 miles of them) for the gold rings.i am going to watch this guys auctions and see how they go . if i can pick them up cheap enough it might be worth it.

thanks again

john
