Hello,

First post here and was wondering if anyone could help me identify this item I found looking through items I bought from an estate sale. I found an arrowhead w/ broken end tail and another broken gray stone arrowhead artifact in the container as well which was glued back together? I'm not sure what this is though.. It measures exactly 2" in length. Any info would help, thanks.

looks like a slate spear. this article is from the ohio archaeologist vol. 37 #4. their function may have been ceremonial. sometimes people carved their initials, etc. on the pieces.

It has certainly has been worked, but without knowing where it came from it would be hard to type as a slate point, a pendant preform, or as a Native American relic vs a Historical whatchamacallit...

Slate points were used in some areas (Ohio towards the Northeast into Canada, the Northwest US, British Colombia and Alaska, and occasionally from the Southwest), but I've never seen a preform like that. I'm not even sure it's slate from the picture, it kind of looks like a rounded beach pebble which would be atypical for the material.
