robfinds said:Hello pigeonman, these little Scottish coppers turn up frequently in Yorkshire, probably brought down with the Scottish cattle traders in the 17th century. They were for a while accepted in England. These two holed examples date to the time when this practice became illegal. They were holed probably to take them out of circulation. The rest of my examples are very worn, these coins must have had a long circulation. I can't remember if they date to Charles 1 or 2., they are certainly 17th century though, a great find from your side of the pond !.

I checked the records of my buddy from Burlington County NJ who has over a thousand colonial era coins found and I saw no record of him getting any Scottish coins, so that is a rather rare find in our area, without a doubt. It undoubtly circulated along with the William III coppers which almost all are found identically worn, smooth for the most part on the reverse side with severe wear on the obverse side..........

PS Cru gets a lot of credit for narrowing it down, he just could not produce the photo.
