Need Help Identifying Old Coin

Last night, using my Nox 800 metal detector, I detected this coin in Southern California at a downtown site that was otherwise just yielding post-1958 American coins. It rang up at 25 on my machine, is about the size & weight of a silver quarter & was found about 4" deep in what appeared to be natural dirt. The coin looks very old & had a dull silver appearance when found. But try as I may, I have been unable to find any date or decipher any words on the coin. In searching online, the closest thing I find are Spanish cobs & maravides. But those usually have a Christian cross & a date, which I can find nowhere on this coin.

By searching this site, I found previous threads dealing with Spanish cobs. However, I have been unable to find a thread with photo of a coin like this one.

Would appreciate any help in narrowing down this coin as to age & place of origin. If you need additional information, let me know & I will provide it.

There are a few people on here that might be able to help with the Cobb theory. To me I see the number “711” which might be 1711 on the other hand it also looks like it might be a piece of some other object that broke off. Nice find and good luck!!

that's a really cool looking coin
measurements would be awesome ..in mm side t side and if you have a scale that weighs to hundredth of a gram would be super ideal lol is it silver?
I can't say I've seen anything exactly like it, sure doesn't remind one of the the Spanish American cobs
it is a crude looking one and probably dates to that period and could have circulated with the early coins
If was a guessing guy...I might say its from India, pre colonial..but that's just a guess
I'll keep an eye on this to see where it goes in the id

To me it looks more like an ancient coin. They were made from some pretty rough planchets. I'm thinking Roman or earlier.

I don't think it's a coin, either. It looks more like a bit broken from a larger disk or medallion.

The characters may be Chinese.
