This appears to be a key holder, maybe? Two pictures of it. In the one the end is closed but if you pull on the square end the other end closes up. Appears to be nicely made of brass and marked England on one end. Thanks in advance. IMG_0006.JPGIMG_0005.JPG

The correct terminology is .. "scissor snap hook".

AKA ... "Hunters clip" (slang)...

and officially ...

A "hunting snap".
