I'm looking for truly, completely, totally non-metallic shoes for metal detecting. I see all over the web non-metallic shoes and boots, but I can't help but think that the shanks are metal in these supposed non-metallic shoes/boots because they keep referring to the front of the shoes as Composit. I mean am I wrong is the entire product metal free or is there still a metal shank in it? Does anybody actually know? Please help. Also, does anyone on here know where I can get a completely metal free shoes for ground metal detecting like park, woods, yards, etc. nothing for water/beach hunting because I got that covered already. Thanks in advance!

Simply take your detector with you when buying shoes. If you get shoes delivered, "detect" them before wearing. Easy enough. ╦╦C

Hi mate. Over the yrs I learnt to take a pinpointer with me shopping for boots after Rossi went from zero metal to using staples inside the sole areas. They were enough to set off an SD2200d at the time with each step.
Some say non metal but use metal staples like Rossi. Several over the yrs went from zero to having staples. Id advise the people in the shop prior what I was going to do and use so they didn't freak out seeing me take out something that looked like it had a barrel on it.
Toughest hard wearing boots here are non metal toe Redbacks.

There are a few industries that require metal-free attire, enough so that a surprisingly large number of my local workwear shops sell metal free work boots.

I am onto my second pair and they are truly metal free.

Thanks for all the advice from you guys but unfortunately, I'm still unsure how to proceed. I don't own a pin pointer and I'm not going to buy one because it quicker for me to just pick up the dirt and run it across my coil anyway I can't take a pin pointer into a store to check shoes and I'm not ordering supposed metal free shoes over the internet and then when they arrive checking the shoes with a metal detector just to find out they have a metal shank or staples (not happening). PLEASE HELP! Somebody throw this Hyena a bone :crybaby2:

Are you sure it's completely metal free? Have you run your metal detector across it to make sure there's no metal shank in it?
Yep. Passes pin point and detector test, I also have a pair of their lace up memory fit tennis shoes that are completely metal free.

Moccasins. Make yourself a pair.

Don't swing your detector over your footwear!

I use a wheelchair. It is metal. So too the arch in the one shoe or boot I wear. No problem with detecting my footwear. Because I don't swing my coil over my foot.
No idea why you are fretting about foot wear.

You get serious about detecting a pin pointer will save time and solve some small mysteries.
With money saved from not laying out the cost of a new pair of metal free footwear you'd have money saved towards a pinpointer to add to by simply not metal detecting your feet.

When I mistakenly wear my steel-toed boots to go metal detecting I simply notch out the tone and all is silent except what´s in the ground.
Scan your shoes/boots and notch out that tone and your done.

Why can't you?
You must be always detecting in dry, loamy soils if you can find a target faster than a pin pointer.
I used the grab dirt, run it across coil method for 35+ years.
Pin pointer for nearly 20 yrs.
Pin pointer faster.

Now I have to ask what detector do you have that is so sensitive to be picking up your metal shank.
Granted that steel toes might be an issue.

Just extend the shaft to extend the coil past your toes by foot. Problems solved.

Never had that sort of problem unless I ran the coil over by shoes. Still, could be an issue with some detectors I guess. Those moccasins would work and you could always buy a pair of those canvas deck shoes. No metal in them. I guess for stylish detecting you could check out those Crocs, may not be any metal in them.

Great advice from everyone but doesn't serve my needs... you see I'm not the ordinary detectorist I been doing this for many years and got it down to a science. When I detect a site, I'm moving a lot of dirt and swinging hard and fast. I don't have time to fumble with pin pointers or pretty shoes (I would have those Skechers flapping in a week) or making sure I keep my feet away from the coil because I'm moving too fast for that. You see I have to be quick because I dig everything just to be sure, I started digging everything years ago when I got a trash signal and just for kicks, I dug it anyway (bored I guess) and it turned out to be a gold ring just real deep. Anyway, got no need for boots (too hot). I'm looking for let's just say hiking shoes that are tough yet airy and METAL FREE. If anyone knows of any such animal please reply and I mean no disrespect to anyone on here. I appreciate all the insight, and it is helpful.

Just get yourself a pair of comfortable sneakers or if you want to go high end get a waterproof pair as they are great when in dewy grass. Your not going to be swinging that loop over your feet. Get the loop set up for about 8 " in front of your feet and your good to go.

I wear Bates Tactical Sport 2 composite toe work boots. No metal, durable, waterproof, insulated, and comfortable. Same boots I wear for work.

Are you a TROLL?? You've been doing this for years and have it down to a science? Yet you haven't figured out the shoe problem? Do you take us for fools? I've been doing this for 55 years...I figured this stuff out 54 and a half years ago...without the help of others! ╦╦C

Well I may have something for you. Check out Ozark Trail hiking shoes. My least favorite brand for anything outdoors but I'll buy some of their stuff, but never their tents. I got a pair of these and scanned them with my detector and no hit. Could be wrong. I've never had your problem but these seem to be ok.
