Ok, really dove into territory I know nothing about here!

While scrounging through the furniture pile at the town recycling center I saw this and dragged it home :)

The veneer is chipping in many spots but overall this is in really nice shape.

The hardware is mismatched and old but one of the knobs is a really nice brass with (faux?) mother of pearl in the center.

I can't find any maker's mark but I don't really know what to look for either.

Any way to figure out what it is or how old it may be?

Should I just bring it back to the dump?

For all I know this could be cheap 70's 'vintage look' furniture!

What material is the back and drawer bottom made out of?

Took more photos for you.

Not sure what the materials are... I wouldn't know pine from oak!

It has machine cut dovetails, and plywood for the backing and drawer bottoms .. but it has slotted screws as opposed to Phillips screws, and tacks .. My guess is circa 1920's - 1940's.

Cool! Is it a specific design or anything like that? What might this piece of furniture be called? Thought it was odd to see a big cubby area like that.

Spend a little time cleaning it up and you could get a couple of bucks for it. Nice retro piece of furniture.

It is a spin-off of an American Empire "Flame Mahogany" veneer commode dresser.

Thanks for all the info! Now to find some period-correct hardware and make it look nice again :)
