Was out picking the estate sales this morning as usual and got into some neat stuff. The sales company stopped tagging and missed some of the best stuff in the sale. This was among those things I placed in my pile. They just looked at the pile of items and charged $65, hoping this is the real deal but I won't cry if it's not. The markings look pretty good but I'm no pro at these.

it looks legit to me. I've got an SA dagger, but it's not in near the condition that one is

Yeah, that is one of my concerns is it looks possibly too nice. If real it must have been for dress.

from your pics, it looks like all the wear on it is in the correct places. it certainly looks to show the correct age. I don't spot anything that looks artificially aged. judging from your pics, I believe it to be genuine. do you know if the estate was from a WW2 vet?

Didn't see any other military stuff, he did have an incredible collection of pocket watches. Gold hunter cases and railroad watches galore. This was found with a small collection of European coins dating to the war and some personal items not war related.

Good thing I didn't pay hardly anything to get it. Thanks Y'all.

Leaning toward reproduction as there are some red flags as to it's authenticity. Just enough pro thoughts going on here to keep my hopes up a little. As a reproduction, I would call it a fair one for sure.

After enlarging your photos and looking around a bit on the web, I think it's the real deal myself. What are the marks on the hanger? RZM M5/71?

I disagree, I think it's original.

Only problem being is that all nazi daggers were usually marked Solingen and had the makers stamp on the blade. The distribution marking is also missing (it may be there but I cant see it) from the hand guard. The RZM marking is only a control stamp.

I am a fledgling in the German WW2 collectible field. However I do have an active interest in this area of collecting. This thread has prompted me to do a little research on these particular daggers. This is what I have been able to find out so far...
Not all of the blades are maker marked, especially the late war RZM models. Only transitional (mid war RZM) models were maker marked and the early (non RZM) models. The M7/42 stamp designates that this was made by W.K.C. (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.) Waffenfabrik, Solingen-Wald.

The crossguards on the plated models usually did not have a gau mark, the solid nickel guards did. There is more info here-

Uploaded some new pictures...I was thinking fake because of the plating and no mark on the hand guard. I noticed today the leather strap is marked if that helps anything. I can take a better picture of any particular part.
