Re: navy button-pewter id and date?

Take a pic with a ruler so we can see the size.
And also, whats the back say or look like? Heck, post a pic of the back too.
Interesting button without the stars and no rope other than around the edge.

Re: navy button-pewter id and date?

I believe your button is in fact navy but I can't put a date on it. Pre civil war for sure. It is like, but not exactly the same, button number NA88 in Alberts Button book. A couple of different shots and a shot of the back would help. In case it isn't visible in a picture, read the backmark for us if you can. Darn nice find you have there.

Early side of 1800s for approx. date, not pewter, brass or copper. Regardless real nice one.

I agree with IP, it is brass or copper, not pewter. :) It is similar to NA88 but has no rope, so thus most likely one of many variants that do exist in the military button kingdom. ::) Based on backmarks of similar buttons, the age is probably 1816-1830 era......give or take.

The new pictures are better. It matches the one I referenced except that in the book there is a ribbon around the shaft of the anchor which is not there in yours. Other than that it is an exact copy. The backmark matches the one listed in the button book. As was mentioned, a slight variant from what was shown in the button book but a very nice navy button just the same.
