My colonial spot in the tranquil woods. To be honest this place is not exactly rich with finds and it gets harder and harder to find things. ...But the woods keep giving! Not anything to text home about but I keep finding ox shoes. My rational is that as long as I'm missing those there are other targets evading my coil. I'm thinking the wealthy neighbors must know my car by now mysteriously parked at the end of the street. So it was the weekend and I had a few hours to pass. I found an 1891 IHP that is nothing nice but still a day maker right off the bat. Certainly an auspicious beginning to the day. Then I spent a few hrs swinging for the fences in vain. There has got to be some Spanish silver hiding here. Found some more ox shoes and called it a day. I had something I had to do at home and then found myself with a couple more hours to burn. Back to my woods! There was a low flat area that I hadn't searched much so I went there. It's really the only part of the woods with some modern trash. Pretty shortly in I got a solid signal and gave it a dig. The artifact that popped out looked like a doorbell plate. Boring! I'll look at it later. Keep swinging. Basically found nothing and went home. Upon cleaning and with a suspicion that it could actually be a keeper I began to look it up. Confirmed by some web info and the great book by Bill Dancy: Discovering Virginia's Colonial Artifacts. It's a colonial bitboss from the 1600's -1700's. Just went from boring to scoring! Really stoked on this find! Back to the book. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy it. If you like colonial artifacts this is the book for you! Thanks for reading my treasure tale!
