This was found by a guy I know. He was loading trucks with dirt in a pit and it was kinda raining at the time. As he was waiting for the next truck to pull up he noticed a outline of something in the dirt. When the rain was lightly falling on the ground it revealed a outline of a canoe. A still intact untouched by the machine. He was digging maybe a 25 minute drive from the locations on the water where I find my pottery. The spot he was digging was once a small bayou that had since been silted over for hundreds of years since it was maybe 1/4 away from bayou lafourche which was a natural large canal that tied in to the Mississippi River. So it deposited silt every year prior to man made levees and water control. Thought y’all would find this story interesting. And I also believe he had it sent to Texas A&M for proper care and cleaning and I assume to date it as well.

In many cultures, a canoe was a highly valuable item.

I wonder how that excavation job is coming..?
