Mytimetoshine

It's that second pair of socks that always makes the difference.......Had a great time with you and SOHR scraping that mucky gravel and that elusive .04 of color still remains safe on the edge of the river...

Thanks for the fun stories. I recently had to replace my small back pack, 20+ years of hiking and 1 year of prospecting finally did it in. Found a Milwaukee back pack on sale for 50.00 1/2 price. Fits nicely behind front seat in truck right next to bgt which fits under rear seat. Can fit almost everything I take inside with exception of shovel, rock hammer, small tripod seat, waders and sluice, and they strap to outside easy enough. It has hard plastic bottom which I like. Any water on tools won't leak out bottom and down your back and butt. Plus you can set it in the snow and not have in soak bottom of pack. Weighs 20 lbs without waders and sluice, 35 lbs with. (Have larger external frame hunting pack for when son goes and I have to carry most of his gear as well. only been out once since I picked it up, felt comfortable but was short hike maybe 1 1/2 miles. It would be nice if it was just a tad larger, won't fit super sluice pan.(was going to post a couple of picks but won't load for some reason)

I'm such a wimp on packs that I make sure it's less than 10 pounds going in cuz I know it's going to be 20-30 coming back. Ya got me jealous with that story tho and even I KNOW it was frickin COLD! I got plans to hit a new spot Jan 1 (soon to be called Area 2) that was an old and long time prosperous AU mine till the FS stepped in and ended it all. I suspect there may be some left for me and my buddy John. And if the LEO's want to come out and chat on New Years day and just a short 2 mile hike in...then let's visit! Other wise, dig or watch me sluice!

Ah, very cool. Yea this one looks in decent shape. And that hunk of iron probably is a sledge hammer head. I didn't even think about that! Every nail I pulled out I wanted to know the story of who dropped it. MD is pretty fun, I bet even more fun when you find a picker!

Hey what about that bullet looking thing? Any ideas?

What thing r u talking about

Jeff is that 10-20 lbs of gold you are hauling out every trip or are you repaving the driveway with cobble? Hope to see some pics of the area 2 take.

What thing r u talking about

I think he's talking about the one eyed squirrel head with it's tongue out that's resting in his palm.....

lol yeah it was a nice day. I was cold, beat to hell, and ready for bed by the end of the day. You sure were on an expedition to check that corner out lol- I was thinking "how far is this guy going to go". For a second i was worrying that we may get split up.

And lol Joe's pretty hardcore- remember when we went to talk to him & his one boot was in the water and his other leg from the knee down was in the water too- just chillin like it was nothin lol. I was so cold and tired i couldn't even get another pan in- that doesn't happen too often.

Thanks for coming out man, always a pleasure! It was a great day spending time with fellow prospectors and chasing that next hot spot!

I can go further.. just need to keep my arms free. That's what wears me out when hiking. The pack is nothing. Yea man it was great to see you again, we will get more outings in for sure! I don't mind the rain and water levels, but this cold sucks! C'mon spring!

Happy new year Tnet!!!

I panned my first piece of gold fly poop 2 1/2 years ago at the Bear river park and campground. I moved up to the Sacramento area 3 years ago after 35 years in Fremont CA (east bay area). I was going through a divorce and moved up here because there was nothing back there for me. My parents had sold there house and retired about 4 years earlier. They now live in Lincoln Ca. So with a at the time 4 year old daughter and split custody I knew I would need my parents to make it happen. My job at the time, even though I hated it allowed me to transfer to west sacramento without a pay reduction. That's was big.

The divorce and custody arrangements were brutally heartbreaking but in the end worked out for the best. The job...got even worse as new management came in and demanded I commute to the bay area every day...it was killing me.. eventually had to seek some help for stress. Got some help and then by some miracle I got a job opportunity through a new friend and was hired a a job that I absolutely love here in El dorado hills. After 6 months I decided to pay extra to get an apartment here in town. I now live in a great place in a great area. I commute 10 minutes if that to work. And I have gold available 15 minutes away.

So I had about a dozen outings mostly to the bear river that first 6 months. Just learning how to pan and all that. Lurked hard on the forums and picked up what I could. Then with the job change, new apt, driving back and forth to pick up my daughter, horrible results at the river, I just didn't get out for almost the whole next year when that same friend who got me the job mentioned something about gold and we ended up at SF American panning. I recaught the fever that day and hit it hard this year. This day was April so I missed a 1/4 of the season.

I am really thankful I have found this hobby and stress outlet. I love it. I've met some great people in a short amount of time and I forsee myself being a prospector for life! Thanks to everyone who helped and supported me.

Total take for 2015: 10.75 grams

So I had something to do in SF today at noon. I knew it was gonna eat up the whole day so I decided to get up earlier and hit ocean beach with the MD for an hour or so. It continues to be a learning experience but managed to come up with a quarter and 3 pennies and a bunch of trash. Not exactly an ideal beach to hunt but I wanted to make the most of my trip. Also found a really old oil filter about a foot down. Kinds cool but was crumbling apart. There were a few patches of black sand down by the water line so I scraped some up to take home and test pan also!

Ive always wanted to sample the sands there, im sure you know about the color being found and I hear there is a ledge somewhere around there that is a source supposedly.. Curious to hear what comes of the samples you took.
