A few years ago I found this ancient ring. It is sterling, but the stone is what amazes me, I have never seen anything like it, nor has anyone else I have shown it to. It is semi transparent, and the black thing on the front of the stone shows up in the same place on the backside. There is no color of black going through the stone, it's almost like a mirror image. I sure hope all y'all I.D. 'ers in here can help me...... Not ge

Re: mystery stone in ring

Could it be a light-colored amber with some sort of inclusion?

Re: mystery stone in ring

The stone has actually a milkywhite translucence to it. It may be picking up some of the green from the background.

Re: mystery stone in ring

It could be moonstone but the darker thing is what makes me think not moonstone.. it most likely is some form of agate.. theres so many different kinds, moss agate, tree agate but heck if I can remember that one... am sure its in the agate family.

Re: mystery stone in ring

Looks like agate to me. I find a ton of these, and they look very similar. No two are exactly alike. They are like snowflakes and sunsets and women :tongue3:

Here is a somewhat similar one i found after searching my collection very briefly. Im sure if I really searched I could find a better match, but I have jars and jars full of them. It would take hours. This one is about the size of a jellybean.

Moon Stone is a good guess and a possability, however I am going with Dendritic Agate, fern like.

Re: mystery stone in ring

Hi, I was looking at the different views of your ring and It made me think of mine. I dug it out of the drawer
and am studying it now. It is silver with a 7/16" by 11/16" agate setting. There are 2 streaks extending from one
end; both dark brown. One is well defined and about 1/16" thick, slightly off parallell to the cut. The other is
shorter with blurred edges. The stone is transparent, though not real clear. I thought it was quite an unuasual
ring when I bought it in 1965. That was just before I got maried so I remember the year. Sorry I cant show a picture. I haven't learned how to project a picture to the forum yet. I had help to show a picture when I became a charter member. She had to leave and I cant remember what all she did to get it from the computer to the forum. My wife started to learn the computer before I did but she cant do it either. Have to get my niece
back here to show me again.

Haven't been able to wear this ring for years because of arthuritis in my fingers.
