We call this a "cherry-hook". It is used to pull tree branches closer to one, so that you can pick off the fruit. The region is known for its cherry schnaps.

Victoria Swiss Rigi-Kulm hill walking stick.jpg

I have a similar stick with the owners name inscribed on it, "Marx". Because my grandfather had royal connections I was wondering if it was given to one of Queen Victoria's daughters as an exchange gift. This may then have then been handed down to my grandfather. This is something I am pursuing.

Do a Google image search on 'Victorian walking stick "rigi kulm"'. You'll see many examples of these. Apparently, they were popular souvenir items - from a time when men felt they had to prove their manliness through adventure - then buy a stick to show they had done it. :laughing7:
