I found this 2 years ago at an early settlers site in W PA. I found a Half Reales and a KG about 10’ away. I posted this with the other finds at the time, but no ID’s were made. Trying again since the patina has come back highlighting marks in a mostly smooth silver piece. Let me know if you see anything from these pics to help ID.

I have a new client that manufactures electron microscopes and they have offered to give it a shot as well, just not sure if it will unveil anything. Thx

Maybe mention the actual diameter and that might help those who know more about old coins in helping to identify it. Looks definitely old and made of silver took me.

Smooth as a babies bottom... sorry I couldn't resist. :laughing7:

Hope you get an I.D.

It is what ever you want it to be and no one can prove you wrong lol

Since it already has that hole in it, I would give it a silver test acid bath on it. That will bring out the details. It will leave a grey haze on it though.

Ok, it is definitely a Pine Tree Shilling, lol. Maybe it was an early US quarter shaved down into a smooth disk for a sort of “love token”. Hopefully I’ll get some time with the SEM to get a scan of the metal under the surface to see if a recognizable image appears.

Thx, I tried that when i first found it. Did not help unfortunately.

Strange. A full bead of fresh red, test acid, covering one entire side and left sitting for 30 sec to a minute, should have at least taken out those deeper indentations with the black vallies. I did need to buy fresh test acid for silver on my first trials with this procedure. Well, "it is what it is."
