Mystery item - who's up for a challenge? (new pictures added)

I found this along a stream that recently flooded during one of our recent rain events. The item is made from brass that appears to be nickel plated. The top portion looks like it could be in the shape of a beehive and then it tapers down to a hollow end that went onto wood (in fact there is still a piece of wood in the hole). My guess is that it is something that went onto a flag pole top (although the hole is only about 5/8" round). Or another possibility it it could have been part of a tap handle for beer? What do you all think? Anyone seen or found one of these before?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Mystery item - who's up for a challenge?

I don't think it is a decorative item. The design is too plain. I mean, squares with crosses in them??
The pattern looks functional, like it was part of a masher or grinder.

Thanks for all the guesses!

I like the honey dipper guess, but who knows what it is! The other side of the mystery item looks the same. If I do find out what it is I'll let you all know.

It looks like it is shaped to scrap something out of a round bowl.

The beehive is mentioned in the Bible..milk and honey, the book of Mormon, and is a symbol used in Masonry..I believe because the bee is very industrious and works together...there could be others.

Could we see a pic face on of the point or the side to see the thickness?

I bumped it up because I thought it was interesting. Im not sure I can reach the OP hasnt been active since January.

My guess is this was on a wood pole and is somehow related to a fraternity org. that used a beehive. http://themasonicleader.com/?p=255

The shape resembles this Masonic beehive award.
