I found this Tuesday at a Civil War blockhouse site located next to a railroad bridge. Pretty trashy area full of iron. I was only able to pull out this piece, a bunch of square nails, and a ton of large iron. The point appears to have been sharp but had been broken off, it was not rounded. Part of it is bent. Edges seem flat too and not really sharp. Any ideas what it is?

Is the round piece hollow like a wooden shaft could be inserted in it?

Actually it is not round at all, cant tell from the picture. Its flat. Could be that the round part that a staff would insert into broke off. If will have to check that when I get home.

If the larger, flat piece has holes in it (covered up by rust) it might be some sort of hinge.

I don't see any holes in it but will look harder. This one may just stay a mystery!

Agreed, probably a hinge. Thanks for the help! Guess I need to invest in electrolysis stuff now!

Not to get your hopes up but it could be the blade from a pike.Sometimes the blade wasnt held to the shaft by a socket that the shaft went into. Those two tabs,or what ever you want to call them, opposite the point held the point to the shaft.
