Hello again everyone!

I have now found my second gold! YES again! :icon_thumleft:

This time it's a slightly smaller ring, but that's okay. I pulverized it with my new Lesche digger, but that's okay, too! I don't care about that. I just like the gold bullion!

I looked for the marking inside and found some numbers but I am a bit baffled by them so once again I turn to the amazing folks of TNet to help me out.

I've taken some photos (and done my best using my non-macro camera.) As you can see, there are 4 digits. They are pretty rubbed out, but it looks like "999" followed by a space then another "9", or if I am reading them upside-down, 6 then 666. The only thing that made sense to me was 999 which would make this little fellow 24k. It weighs 3.7 grams.

Anyway, I'm so darned happy about this for a number of reasons. First, I went to that park looking for gold for a very specific reason and I found it! So I will be heading back and looking again to see if I can find more. I have a strong suspicion that I will find more. Secondly, I just found my first gold 2 weeks ago, so this is a nice trend developing here. (Of course, I don't expect to find a new gold ring every 2 weeks all year, but it's still great to find another one so quick!)

I do wonder about the color. I thought pure gold like that was a slightly different color? I have some gold coins, for example the American Eagle, the American Buffalo (24k) and the colors are quite a bit different than this ring. Am I reading the numbers wrong? Is this a normal color for a 24k ring? Thanks for any feedback you can give me on this and good luck in your hunts!

(By the way, for those of you wondering, my wife flipped out when I gave her the other ring. She loved it.)

Here is the mangled ring. I hit it with the Lesche because it was starting to rain and because of the VDI numbers I thought I was just digging a penny so I let her rip! oops.

Here are some better views of the numbers inside.

Way to go! :hello2:
I'm no expert but it looks 24k to me. The fact that it bent as easily as it did could be a pretty good indicator ( higher the karat the softer). By all means though, I would suggest getting it tested at a jewelers, or better yet, the way you're rolling, you might do better to just pick up a kit and do the testing yourself. That way any future finds, you're all set. :icon_thumleft:

It's 24k, very popular to wear 24k gold with some cultures. $153.75 melt value at today's gold price. Put it on a mandrel and carefully straighten it out. Congrats! :icon_pirat:

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold!!!!!!!! nice stuff keep digging KRAZYHORSES

I'd say 24k is correct. It looks to me like there's a lot of gold in that ring. Congrats :headbang:

Congrats on the beauty of that deep gold!

No testing needed, 100% 24k. Ive found lots of these over the years. Im starting to doubt your Canadian residence sir being that Ive hunted everywhere under the sun and youve found both gold rings with asian styles. I can guarantee this ring is from Korea. Koreans measure their gold weight in something called a DON pronounced DOon not dune. The measurement for don is 3.75 but being that 24k is so weak the 5th of 3.75 usually gets shaved off over time. 999.9 is the symbol for 24k. Koreans also measure the gold in those incruments for the rings for investment purposes. So its not uncommon there for older people to wear these rings sometimes 2 or 3 of them at a time. The dominations for the rings go up in size as well, this being the smallest. Sizes are 3.75, 7.5, 11.25, 15 and 18. 75 are the common sizes they have one more bigger one but Ive never seen anyone wearing one. I have however found all sizes up to 18.75 which is a jaw dropper I have pictured all sizes! Enjoy!

I just read all your posts and thanks everyone for the positive information!

Hi Crackbadger! :D You made me laugh my head off with your comment about doubting my Canadian residence, and here's why:

Although I am Caucasian, and originally from Montreal, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 94 and I've been living here ever since. The Vancouver area has a huge Asian demographic! In fact, I actually married a Chinese woman in 2007 (and I'm very happy I did!)

Vancouver is very, very multicultural. In my area (East Vancouver) you'll find pockets of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, East Indian, Japanese, European, Caucasian, you name it... even the neighbors on my floor in my condo building are Korean on one side and Chinese on the other.

I guess this does open things up from a metal detecting standpoint. It gives me the chance to find more stuff from around the world. Having said that, after watching tons of great American videos on YouTube, I am jealous of the amount of 90% silver you guys can pull out of the ground. There just isn't the same amount of old silver coinage in our ground up here, and even when you do find it, it's only 80%. (Plus your coins are way cooler, IMHO!)

Anyway, interesting observation, but that is why I am finding those types of rings. And that is why I am consciously seeking out some of the areas that Asians like to go. I'll be doing that more often in future because it is starting to pay off!

Take care and good luck with your hunting everyone!

Vancouver actually has a very low crime rate. Having said that, it's important to be careful anywhere you're detecting.

Woo baby! Nice lil ring :)

Keep em coming brother.
