i was helping a friend take load after load to the transfer station in Seattle this summer... The stuff I saw thrown out EVERY DAY would have filled multiple "Goodwill-s" with better stuff than they usually sell!

I remember finding bikes, old typewriters (antique)all kinds of good stuff at the dump, luckily, we didn't have a dump monitor person to tell us we couldn't repurpose or collect anything.

They basically have opened a new location from where I found that chest, NOW in the new location, there is an edge with a ten foot drop and they put a container below it, there are rails so you can't fall in, and you back up and dump your stuff in containers for cardboard, bulky trash, metal, etc So now there is NO WAY to retrieve something once it's in the huge bins... Before at the other place you just dumped everything in a pile and they scooped it up with a backhoe or something... thereby giving you a chance within 15-20 minutes of pilfering the trash if you saw something you wanted...
