I spent 2 hours in the hot sun this morning and found exactly one coin! But that coin was a winner! Not 100% sure, but I think I found a 1722 Rosa Americana penny! The amazing thing is that it was only 4 inches down and on a field I've detected at least 20 times. It was in an area full of iron, so that's probably why I've missed it up until today.

Haven't cleaned it much, but it's definitely King George on the front. Let me know what you think about the back. I'm pretty sure I see a rose and "Rosa Americana" along the top of the reverse. It's thicker than a half penny, so it should be a penny denomination.

Here's a few pics:

Excellent man!! That's one that has eluded me for 20+ years. Great find!

Congrats! That's awesome!

You made it happen.
Congrats

Thanks, guys! I think it may actually be a 1723 and not a 1722. I'll have to do some more research to be sure. Looks like mine has a banner on the reverse with lettering, so that should make it 1723.

Wow, now I really like this coin! You're always finding awesome coins from the 1600's, so any coin that's eluded you for that long must be tough to dig!

Congratulations on the old copper! :occasion14:

That's a really tough find. Nice job Tim. One I haven't gotten over despite several Woods Hibernias and a handful of KG1s

That is one fantastic piece of history! Its amazing to think that coins like yours are still out there for the finding. Congratulations!!!
