My oldest coin!! ...and right in my oun front yard!!....update!!-more pics!!

Was poking around in my front yard, I knew there was some history there, but just didnt know how much. The house was built about 1930, but theres much evidence of an earier structure. Ive been detecting for about 6-7 years but never thought my oldest coin would be right under my feet, so to speak. earlier today I found a religeous medal dated 1830 so after dinner I decided to see what else was out there. This LC was about 8-9 inches down giving me a strong tone one way, and a very weak one the other. Seems to be A 1820 with the 20 over the 19, I hope everyone can see my estimations from the photos. Also found a 1918s mercury dime, silver plated spoon PAT>1877 and a squashed little bell.

Ok, so I spent about 3 more hours in my yard. (which now looks like swiss cheese!) found 3 more bells, plenty of wheats, an 18k gold ring, a whatch casing, and this one merc. so I guess thats it for the silver here, maybe ill try again in a few more days.

The longer the site has been occupied, the more iron there is to contend with. Nice work on such a great LC. I think you'll find that wet ground will help you out a bit.

WOW wow WOW wow WOW ~ that is SWEET! I'm so jealious! I've been detecting for 15 years and have yet to dig a Large Cent! They are pretty rare in Oregon! Congrat's!

If I found a LC in my yard i think i would be out there for a while. I have yet to find one and yours is a beauty. 8)

Thanks everyone, yeah I looked at that coin good and hard, when I zoom in on the pictures I can even see where the outline of the 9 was. I cleaned it off good with soap and water, not brave enough for a peroxide bath, not exactly a risk id like to take. I was pretty shocked to see a banner shout out, lol! ill keep you all posted on anything else that comes out of there.

nice. definitely makes me want to hunt my yard even harder. wonder if i'll find coins like that... i agree about tons of iron... thats mainly what i've been digging up so far.
