Very quick hunt today between the rain. The first signal I dug was the KG so I knew I was in a good spot. My oldest coin was a 1744 farthing until today. Getting close to those 1600's. After a few trash signals I found this piece of pewter which looks like a rosette. It marked 1745 but falling apart fast. Any ideas how to preserve it? Thanks for looking.

Very nice Greylock! Congrats.

Awesome find! Sent you a PM re preservation of that relic.

Very nice! Listen to whatever Erik's advice is. He knows his stuff.

Sweet finds. I love the KG I's. they seem to hold up better after being in the ground. My oldest coin find was a KG I halfpenny also.

Thanks everyone. Erik, I took your advise. Seems to be holding together just fine.

Wow ! Nice and old

I'm jealous! Sure, we get CW find's and some Colonial era stuff here in East Tennessee...... but you guy's in New England "rock"!! What I wouldn't give for a dig on a Revolutionary site!! WTG! A King George..... geeeesh.....

piece with 2 holes looks like a whizzer

What's a whizzer?

It's a toy of sorts--a disc with two holes in it that a string is put through...there was a link posted here recently, maybe someone will repost, but the theory is that as the string is pulled tight the disc will spin and make a whizzing noise. You see these made of coins (large cents) sometimes. A few months ago I found a flattened lead disc (possibly made from a musket ball) with two holes in it--thought it might have been a homemade button, but recently it dawned on me that it must have been a whizzer.

Erik, that's for the information on a whizzer. Also the pewter disc seems to be holding up very well. Ill have to do that to some of my buttons.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
I found another KG today if anyone wants to take a look it has me a little stumped.
