My new Garrett Ace 350s, seeing silver but finding iron

Ive dug all kinds of coins almost all clad except maybe 40 silver coins and acouple rings last year and yes it was with the ace but i didnt make it a better machine...it has a very hard time telling between a quarter and a penny and thats ridiculous...you can actually set your discrim to quarter/dime only and still go out and dig zinc/copper pennies it has no discrimination ...like the old saying goes it couldnt tell its butt from a hole in the ground....and lets not even get started on bottle caps

What does the Ace series mean to Garret and metal detecting in general? It represents a good entry level detector. It develops brand loyalty to Garret detectors. This machine is an investment of about $200 versus the $400 for a entry level Minelab. For Garret to offer a machine in the $200 range is smart because people don't change brands very often. Whites also does the same thing. They offer entry level detectors to develop brand loyalty. These companies also spend advertising dollars in mainstream media outlets.

I have often times recommend the Ace series to people wanting to get started. They can get their feet wet without a big up front expense, find a few quarters and decide if the hobby is right for them.

I dont see it doing anything but detouring myself from another garrett ive hunted with friends using cheaper bounty hunters that did better ...they really need to consider putting some research into discrimination they have great depth compared to others they really hit the mark with the dd coil....but when it comes down to falsing, bottle caps, general discrimination they are way off they mark...i wouldnt recommend the ace350 or at pro to anyone ...it will suck all the ambitions for metal detecting right out of your body

I spend atleast 30 hours a week detecting with a garrett ace 350 so lets just call a spade a spade..

Why not sell the Ace for something else? I believe you commented on the Fisher F2 in my first thread which seems like a good machine... just saying!!

I would just be changing 1 problem child for another ...no ty

My dad never owned a Ford, but he could tell you everything that was wrong with em

HAH! I never owned a Chevy and I can tell you everything that's wrong with em.

Seriously though, in this case, there's no magic detector. When a company makes a mid-level detector that can discriminate everything (every time) they'll corner the market. Until then, one will need to get the closest thing for the money (AT, ATGold, MXT, 705, Safari, eTrac) or face the reality of needing several detectors for specific targets/soils. ATPro+Infinium+Goldbug maybe.

Dusty... maybe you should start researching coils. A good coil might be just what you need. I own a bounty hunter 4 (selling it), and trust me, no bounty hunter can do what the AT or MXT does. Technically, it's impossible for them to.

Ive had a nel big coil and still have a garrett sniper coil...nothing worse then putting a new coil on the ace series they work the best with the factory dd coil my complaints arent with garretts dd coil because i love that part of it ...its the discrimination they are lacking
