...My first silver coin!

About three weeks ago I posted my first silver ring I found, but today was a whole new story. I am very new to metal detecting, receiving my (and my sisters) metal detector, so this was a exciting find! I just got off school, and decided to take a few minutes to detect around our yard, when I get a signal about 3" deep, with a penny/dime signal, and retrieve a 1970 penny, not so exciting. about three feet away from that dig, I swipe under a bush, where I get the same signal. I stick my probe down and feel the buzz and I start my dig... I feel around in the soft garden soil, and pull out a dime with a glint I new was silver! About 4" deep, but I did not rub the dirt off just yet..

I threw the dime back, and grab my sister (12) years old, from the house to let her see what was in the whole. She sees that the sides did not have the clad look, but the silver look, and was almost as excited as I was. All within about a foot from our homes foundation! I showed my Mom, and I had not even checked the date yet! It was an 1946 Roosevelt, pretty close to being a merc, but oh well, silver is silver! Sorry, can't post a picture, dont know how to download onto the computer, maybe my mom will later!

Thanks for all the help! I was starting to get the silver fever, since we live in a 100-year-old house, and find down to 1934 in wheats, but no silver in 3 weeks time'. It seems like one silver on here is like nothing, but for me it is quite the trophy! Sure did change my afternoon!

It sure was random that I even found this site, since I was bored and looked up treasure, and boom, this site turned up. Only a few weeks later to get a detector!

congratulations! its always awesome to see that shine. you did good. i would bet that there is another one in your yard somewhere....just have to really thoroughly clean your yard out. try sweeping from a 90 degree angle to what you already did. dont worry about the multiple silver finds on here....these are some of the best detectorists, with years of experience, from all over the world. if i can find just one silver coin on a hunt then im satisfied....that is a good hunt to me. it doesnt always happen, but its the goal.

the important thing is to have fun, and enjoy wondering what you MIGHT find when you dig that next hole! it not so much about what youve found, but what you might find in the future that makes this hobby so great, i think.
