Hi all. Hope your hunts have been good and kind to you. I met up with Cjon455 again today for our second hunt. We decided to go out in the country and do some door knocking. Last time we went, I had a first~my first Indian Head. I had my best silver day~3 silvers. The first hunt, Cjon picked the house and I did well. Today, I picked the house and Cjon did the best. I am starting to see a pattern here.....hmmmmm.....I think next time Cjon picks! Lol.
Anyway, I will not steal his glory....he can tell you what he found. Today was a button kind of day for me, and this is where my first happened! Last year, I went LC crazy in the corn fields but not ONE solitary little flat button to be found. I wanted one so badly. Well, here it is, my very first~

It was my last target and quite deep, about 8 inches right off the road in front of the house. I got 4 more wheats and some clad, a nice little milk cow brass pin that I gave to the very nice old couple who allowed us to hunt and gave us some new prospects for the fall hunts. The gentleman's father had a huge dairy farm on the property back in the 1920's, so I had to give them the little cow. They were thrilled! I also found the knotted button here. Don't know how old it is. We left this place and went to a beautiful old home that is on the National Historical Registry. The gentleman told us lots of people had detected this property over the years. We know now this was true, lol. I did find the 2 piece military button there. I need to clean the back a bit more to see what it says. Will post pics then of it. If anyone knows the age, please say so. I think WW1 or 2 possibly. Thanks for looking!

Nice finds OD!! I have never seen a knotted button like that???? WTG, Q.

Thank you, Mr. Q. I am not even positive that is what it is because of it's construction. It was in an area Cjon found some really nice coins and relics so it was in the company of old relics but we know that doesn't mean anything, lol.

Thanks, Beez. You are right about Cjon finding so much. TN probably limits the number of finds pics you can put in one thread, lol. He picked the right part of the yard when we got there and didn't get to leave it except for water breaks.
That was just luck that I happened to pick the part of the yard with the old stuff, or I'm just awesome:laughing7:, lol

I just had a brainstorm. Both our hunts, I made my best finds hunting in a small area you didn't do because of one reason or another. I think next time I will sit in the shade, sip cold beverages and then saunter over to collect my good stuff you so generously leave me!:laughing7:

lol I way over think things, but generally when gridding, I usually start with the smallest parts of the property first.
you can sit back and watch me get that morgan............or colonial Reynolds wrap:laughing7:

Sweet buttons OD. :occasion14: I 've dug some of those "Best" buttons before and do remember it was tough trying to track it down in my button books.
As far as the knot piece, I would guess it was from a brothel. A lot of things that went on in there were "knotty". :laughing7:
I have to ask.... Did Cjon gain permission on his first attempt again? ???
Congrats Big Guy.

I can always count on you to make me laugh! Your brothel/knotty comment was a good one!
Did your Best buttons have the same graphics? Thanks, Sir!

Yep, it sure did. I'll try to dig it/them out later. I have them filed in 2 x 2 coin flips and then in boxes.

You can always count on me for a laugh. It keeps us young.
After thinking about it, perhaps that piece belonged to Don. Don Knott's. :tongue3:

Yes modern miner I did, he found the site, I asked. Rather simple when u get nice old folks, the lady actually said, jeez these things would just rot away in the ground if no one came and did this. How's that for awesome!

Please don't go to trouble looking for your buttons. I thought maybe you might remember if it had those hearts(?) on them. The more I look at that "knotted" button, the more I wonder about it. It is very lightweight and I can find no mark on it. Perhaps it was a 2 piece and the shank part was separated somehow. Then again, maybe it isn't a button at all. I did find it in Cjon's top secret spot that he had pet snakes guarding for him!

Real nice finds congrats!

It is strange how we find things in groups!

That statement is so true! So next time I'm out, I'm going to "not want" the thing I want, and I'll let you know how it goes. Lol. I will probably come home with nothing!

Yesterday Chris and I decided we do not want a gold cache!

Trust me.....if I find one, it certainly will not be made public, lol!

Nice button collection my friend! :occasion14:
Love the look of the knotted button, never seen one like that before!

Thank you very much Dave! Bigcypresshunter thinks it may be a button cover from early 1900's. He gave me a link with many examples but neither of us can find this particular one. I have sent an email to a member of the National Button Society ( never even knew this existed, lol ). Hopefully she can ID it. Will post any info I get.

I was thinking early 1900's in date as well, possibly as late as 1920.:icon_scratch:
Thanks for the info,
Dave
