Hi all. Hope your hunts have been good and kind to you. I met up with Cjon455 again today for our second hunt. We decided to go out in the country and do some door knocking. Last time we went, I had a first~my first Indian Head. I had my best silver day~3 silvers. The first hunt, Cjon picked the house and I did well. Today, I picked the house and Cjon did the best. I am starting to see a pattern here.....hmmmmm.....I think next time Cjon picks! Lol.
Anyway, I will not steal his glory....he can tell you what he found. Today was a button kind of day for me, and this is where my first happened! Last year, I went LC crazy in the corn fields but not ONE solitary little flat button to be found. I wanted one so badly. Well, here it is, my very first~

It was my last target and quite deep, about 8 inches right off the road in front of the house. I got 4 more wheats and some clad, a nice little milk cow brass pin that I gave to the very nice old couple who allowed us to hunt and gave us some new prospects for the fall hunts. The gentleman's father had a huge dairy farm on the property back in the 1920's, so I had to give them the little cow. They were thrilled! I also found the knotted button here. Don't know how old it is. We left this place and went to a beautiful old home that is on the National Historical Registry. The gentleman told us lots of people had detected this property over the years. We know now this was true, lol. I did find the 2 piece military button there. I need to clean the back a bit more to see what it says. Will post pics then of it. If anyone knows the age, please say so. I think WW1 or 2 possibly. Thanks for looking!

Wouldn't have been on the way back to the car, eh? ;)

Sounds like an interesting day. I'm beginning to like hunting those places where "lots of people had detected this property over the years.". ;)
I already know the chances are slimmer but every neat thing I find is just a bit more sweet. Ya know? :)

Nice saves!

Thanks! It was not on the way back, lol. Cjon had already gone over this area of the property but shied away from the road' s edge because he thought there would be can slaw along the pavement. He had such great luck there, that I had to give it a quick check, lol. I actually did not know what I had and he ID'ed it for me, lol. The owners came out to sit on their front porch then and Cjon and I spent some very good time talking with them. Great people!

Incredible. I am hunting a site loaded with flat buttons and couldn't by a LC if my life depended on it. Ahab8 and I talk about it all the time. CW relics thimbles and flat buttons are abundant yet not a single coin from the period. The site is in an early 1800's ghost town...... yes, a virgin site in a town and not 1 coin. Congrats on finally getting one my friend.

All those relics make it worthwhile though. A flat button has been on my Most Wanted list for a bit now. It's true that we want the most what we don't have:icon_thumright:

I have been telling the gf about your finds. She can't wait to see them. She says "Congrats!".

if shes anything like my wife shes probly like all "oh yeah wahoo, congrats", as she rolls her eyes lol

She probably does feign interest in my finds, but that beats a yawn and " Huh? What ya say?".

I have been searching the "Best" backmark and am not having luck. According to a post by TheCannonBallGuy, the size of this button ( 22 1/4 mm ) indicates it is a "transitional" button dating it from 1795-1805 period. Any other info from anyone on any of the buttons? Thanks!

COWPIN.jpg getting there, this is taking forever lol, heres your cowpin at least!

Congratulations on your flat button. I think you guys might need to flip a coin to decide who picks out the next site. Cjon is taking so long uploading his photos cause he found SO MUCH STUFF!!!

Thanks, Beez. You are right about Cjon finding so much. TN probably limits the number of finds pics you can put in one thread, lol. He picked the right part of the yard when we got there and didn't get to leave it except for water breaks.
