Yes, it is normal.
Different directions can indeed pull up different signals, but more important than that - Once you settle into and feel comfortable with a site, and determine to pound it for what its worth, you slow down your sweeps, and overlap them tighter.
You probably did that also, even if subconsciously.

That is the way to find things you have missed before, keep in mind - The deeper the target [and we are assuming coin sized here] ,,, The more elusive it will be, the less clues it will give up to its location, so you have to use that much more finesse to find it.

Different directions/angles, slower/tighter sweeps/greater sensitivity ,,, All will help you find those elusive targets.

Ya the large one was coming up as a half. I havent goten one of thoes yet so I kept on diging. And like all good md I checked the hole and got the other one right next to it. :icon_sunny:

Yes it seems like the ones on ends are more tricky. I hold the detecter on a angle when I get those bad boys. ;D

Ought to consider getting a handheld pinpointer, makes finding coins in dirt walls alot easier, and lessens the chances of scratching it up.

Some people disagree, but I have found that coins on angles can indeed throw off pinpointing, sometimes by as much as 2 inches.
Not much to be done about it, except to keep that in mind as a possible factor - And for some reason, the false pinpoint will usually leave the target an inch or 2 in front of the hole, rarely to the sides, and almost never to the rear.
So if I've dug down 6 inches or so and still no joy, I start shaving off the front wall little by little, until I get a signal with my handheld, more often than not, there it will be.

Congrate's on your finds. Their's more out thier!!! I'm hitting an old park area again today if the rain can stop...

Good Luck
Happy Hunting
