So i finally was able to get out and hunt the remaining few blocks of the street tear out. Signals are definitely far and few between but I was able to manage a few items. First signal, to me, seems to be a handle to something. Its brass and heavy and rounded off at the end, but broke off half way down, the second find was an old dresser drawer handle, the third was a rather LARGE shell casing (not really sure what they were hunting downtown back in the day, but DAMN!) and finally I found my first ring!!! Pretty stoked! I think its silver although I cant find a hallmark anywhere on it. The only stamp I can find is a partial one that looks like its O I N. But, it came out of the hole as shown, extremely clean and corrosion free. What is the best/easiest way to test to see if its silver? Anyway, not a bad hunt and hopefully will still be able pull a few more relics outta the ground before they finish! Thanks for looking and as always HH!!!

Your ring looks silver to me....first off clean it with some fresh lemon juice to get the tarnish off.

Next step rinse it off with tap water....then put a drop or two of bleach on it....if it's silver that area should tarnish and turn dark in short order....in other words oxidize which is what silver does this just speeds things up.

Regards + HH

If there is no stamp I usually take it by a pawn shop and have them test it. The hallmarks can definitely wear off. Looks silver to me

Thanks for the info! I'll give it a shot and see what turns up. Finding rings is pretty sweet! I could get used to this! Lol

All rings are winners!

Nice find JM! The ring is silver! The "o-i-n" indicates that it is "coin silver" or silver alloyed to the grade usually used in coins which is a tad lower in silver content than sterling but not by much. It may even indicate that the silver used to make the ring was actually from melted down coins, but not necessarily. Coin silver is often seen stamped on silverware. Not sure, but I would be willing to bet that since it is marked "coin" it is probably fairly old. Congrats!

Maybe it was marked COIN, as in coin silver?

congrats on the 1st ring, now you have to find #2

Congrats on your first ring! More to come!

Looks like a silver beauty to me ! Congrats on your first of many to come !

Thanks for all the info guys! I think i had at one time heard of coins being melted down to make jewelry but never knew they marked them as such. Learn something new every day! Thanks again and HH!

That' s a nice old silver ring and a chunky one at that!
Terrific first ring find! Congrats! May there be many more!

For the metal "Money"("Silver") the indicie on the detector is not far from 90, on Garrett, this sound the last 2 indicators to the right.
On Gold Bug Pro, it varies between 85 and 95 of the indication(index) sr the screen.
Good work!

Take your ring and spit on it and roll it up in a piece of aluminum foil for a minute. As you unwrap it put it to your nose and give it a smell. If it smells like rotten eggs you've got yourself a silver ring.

Congrats! Now find more. I am new to this hobby and the first ring is always special. I just got my 24th today, so there are a lot more waiting for you. Try to remember the sound and target ID you had so it will be easier to dig those same signals.

I definitely know what it hit like, havent had anything else really hit that solid at that range yet...which is weird! Either way still stoked and thanks to everyone for checking it out! Never anticipated a ring coming out of that street since everything else we've found hasn't been!
