Well went out today for my first actual run, second detecting attempt ever. (My first day was just a dry run/ testing day.)
I am in the cold cold north of NYS and well I hit a beach cause that is the only place where the ground isn't frozen solid. Low and behold, bang I found these babies.

One ring, not sure if it is real but sure looks it.
I also found two 1943 zinc pennies (where do I look for the mint on them as I know it makes a big difference?)

The mint mark should be under the date. If there is no mint mark, then it is from the Philadelphia mint. Congratulations on your first ring. Not all foreign or custom jewelry is marked inside with the gold purity, but most US commercial jewelry is. Even if it isn't gold, it is a nice find. Looks like a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year coming. HH, Ralph

Congrats on the ring. Zinc 1943 Pennies? Bizarre...they corrode so quickly they must have been a recent drop.

Nice steelies and ring welcome!

Good finds, congrats & hope you continue with the good luck.

congrats on the ring! looks nice!

Pennies in 1943 were made of steel. Congrats on the ring. Keep digging those low tones!

Nice looking ring ! but could you post a picture of the ring by itself - a little closer / couple of
angle shots , please - with all that other stuff it is hard to really see it . thanks, Argentium.

As capndan said, that 1943 is not zinc, but, rather steel.....I'm surprised it is in that good of condition. There was a shortage of copper during the war, so, they made pennies from steel in 1943. The ring looks great, however, it would help a LOT if you would show more of it and from an angle. You should see a maker's mark and proof mark on the inside, if it is gold.

Try to get some better pics and post back.....I would like to see the rest of it!!

Nice finds, indeed. What are you using for a locator?

Congratulations on the ring find Kosh! :hello2:

As others have already mentioned, look for a makers mark inside the band and let us know what you find!

My detector is a GTP 1350.

As for the ring there are some stamps on the inside but they are so worn I can't read them. I will try to post some better pics.

Congrats on your first great find! What type of detector are you using?

:icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright: :headbang: Welcome new detectorist. I am fairly new myself. I found my first ring not to long ago last month. Also new to this. Congrats. Have fun and find more.

Ok as promised new pics.

I think this one is a better pic of my finger than the ring though.

As you can see the hall marks are to worn or nonexistent to see.
