I have been looking at this site for about a week after surfing on to it. It has created a spark in me that I am afraid is going to cost me plenty. I have purchased a new bounty hunter off of EBAY and cant wait till it arrives and I can go hunting on the beach, for starters.. I have no idea how good this detector will be but for a starter I think it will work just fine. The info I have got from this site is awesome and has kept me rivited..

You'll never forget the first thing you pull out of the ground while detecting! (Mine was a rusty curtain hook.) Post your finds, we'll be appreciative! Good luck, and welcome to TNet!

You will love this hobby! But remember one thing, what you put into it is what your gonna get out of it! All it takes is one nice gold ring to pay for that there detector.......Good luck in all you adventures!!!! ;) ;) ;)

Seems strange to me that people in the old days spread coins across the earth like chicken feed,,,wife thinks it was the wagons and horses that shook things out of peoples pockets. Seems like they are every where a human has stood,,,,,,,wierd...I never lose money........

I picked up a Bounty Hunter Discovery 2000 made for Radio Shack in Wilmington, N.C. while we were vacationing at Wrightsville Beach and my son and I had a ball with it. We found like $12 or $13 worth of clad, a mans sterling silver necklace and a cell phone that'd been buried in loose sand but was still working that we returned to the owner. We've been detecting since we got back to Charlotte and found some pretty cool stuff (a lot more clad, a sterling silver napkin ring at a built in 1930's estate. And last but not least, I took my 8 yo and his 12 yo cousin to an elementary school in the neighborhood and dang if they didn't find two mercs in like the first five minutes in about 4 inches of hard clay dirt (a '41 and a '42s) I'm gonna try to post pictures of everything this afternoon.

Excellent observation TxTreasure!!I too am amazed at EVERY SINGLE PLACE i have hunted(except the very first time i used mine in my back yard for about 15 minutes)and, although all modern so far,i have found at least one coin!!$$ is EVERYWHERE!! 8)

Welcome to the forum and to the very addicting MD hobby. I think My Wife at times regrets suggesting buying a detector-- home remodeling has come to a halt!!
Happy Hunting
PS- have had good luck with a discovery 3300

When I was a kid, about 5 or 6, my dad mentioned to me about metal detectors finding metal under ground. I thought he was crazy. How could you wave a machine over the ground and find anything. When I was in high school I started reading treasure magazines and started collecting bottles. I bought a detector a couple years after I graduated. Stopped digging bottles and dug metal instead. Detecting is my main hobby now. You won't be sorry you picked up an interesting hobby.
