I received my MD today and was able to go out for about an hour before dinner. After learning how to operate the machine I headed to the woods for some great finds. I left it on all metals so not to miss anything small, and I am a newby. I live about a mile from New Hope church in Dallas Georgia so my anticipation is high on finding something from the civil war era. Here is what I found:
1) Old beer can (Falstaff)
1) Childs badmitten racket
1) Header pipe in the creek

At least I know the MD works. LOL! I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow. I hope to find at least a coin even if I have to go to the super market and sweep the parking lot.

Hey, Boz. Welcome aboard. You've come to the right place. There's lots of good advice on this forum.

What kind of detector did you buy?

Since I didnt want to spend alot of money until I fall in love with MD'ing I went cheap. I bought the treasure hunter 3030. I bought my father a Garrett a few years back when he lived by the beach. If i find that I really like to MD I will either go get his or buy me a name brand. I will mention that even for a cheap model, I made a garden and the 3030 performs nicely.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with that. There's a lot of people on here making great finds with inexpensive detectors. It's smart to find out if you're going to like it first before sinking the big bucks!

A lot of treasure hunting is how well you know your metal detector....not how expensive it is.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the Forum. It's the best one out there. I know nothin about nothin, I just post my personal opinion a lot. You can ask any questions you can think of here & you'll get a lot of answers. Some are obviously good & others are just as obviously stupid, but never be afraid to ask.
