My first old Coin! 1818 Large Penny!

I was able to spend a few hours at an old house foundation that is across the road from my Dads house.

Lots and Lots of nails....

Then I tried a spot along the rear stone wall, and I found this 1818 Large Penny by a gap in the wall that must have been a gate entrance. Wooo! First old coin with my new toy, an ACE250.

Then I found this medallion about 10 feet away!

Amazing to think that these items have been buried in the ground for the last 100 to 180 years!

Yeah, I agree that the last 2 digits are pretty hard to make out...

Looking at it without an eye-loop it is hard to tell if it is 18, 28, 23, 29, 39 or whatever.

With a 12x eye-loop it seems to be 1818, but then again, I'm no expert.

Do any of you think I should try the heated Hydrogen Peroxide bath to try and clean this up? I don't ever intend to sell it, so losing its value for being cleaned isn't a problem. I just don't want to destroy it any more that I already have, heh.

i am alomst positive its 1813 because if you look at the first eight in the picture its complete then look at the last eight on the left side the the lines stop

great large cent! nice early date too. it is pretty amazing to think that the last person to hold that coin has been dead for probably 100,120 years.

I think this is the first post of yours I have seen. So I have to say welcome to the forum. Even if you have been here for a while. Certainly a great find. I don't have one of those yet, and you sure beat the heck out of my oldest find.
