I was able to spend a few hours at an old house foundation that is across the road from my Dads house.

Lots and Lots of nails....

Then I tried a spot along the rear stone wall, and I found this 1818 Large Penny by a gap in the wall that must have been a gate entrance. Wooo! First old coin with my new toy, an ACE250.

Then I found this medallion about 10 feet away!

Amazing to think that these items have been buried in the ground for the last 100 to 180 years!

Look real carefully at the back of the medallion at the angel.....Looks like they are holding a metal detector!!!! :o

Oh yeeeeahhh, I know I'll probably burn for that one. NICE FIND!

Heh, good one Visceral. :)

Yeah, I don't know what to make of that scene with the Angel. There are two crosses....maybe a scene from Golgatha? And who do you think the two are on the front?

Congratulations! I hope you find a few more. Looks like you are in a good spot. Tsgman

Old??? 198 years!!! It's not "old" it's "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!

And here I am a year later, still looking for just a little 'ole barber! :P

WAY COOL! What kind of metal is that religous medalion? Might just be my puter but it sure looks like gold to me.

vice finds !! ya gotta enjoy the large cents !! congrads to you. ;D ;D ;D

Hiya Nashoba!

It is actually very silvery. If you look at the white highlights in the photo, that is the color of the medallion. The silver surface cleaned up very easily, so that makes me think that it is not silver. Maybe sterling silver, as that doesn't tarnish that easily? I also don't know what type of metal is on the inside. The places where the the outer surface broke off during cleaning show a red layer underneath. I need to be much more careful with future finds, as it looks like I really abused this one.

Very good looking finds JT ;D Congrats on the LC. The medallion looks like gold plated pewter?

Nice finds regardless - thanks for sharing HH/NS

thats a great find!
but when i was looking at it i don't think its 1818 it looks more like 1813, maybe I'm wrong but just take another look for me
