My first NA point I found locally. Could use some help with the particulars.

As the title says this is the first point I've found locally and only the second I've ever found.
weathered and broke but she's still my beautiful baby.

I was detecting a local riverbank over the weekend with quite a bit of history. There are NA pottery shards from many eras, mid 1800's items, and model T metal. I detect it all so I don't miss anything.
Here's a group shot of the mostly NA finds.

It was a nice feeling to put this in the pouch once I spotted it in my scoop.
I'm not sure of what the actual name for this material is but it has white fossiled shells in it. So it might be some type of fossilized sediment.
Also of note was the tooth (opossum molar?), the pottery shard with an intentional hole in it (for hanging the pot?), shard of long bone, and part of a round spinal disc.

Great finds there Pete and congratz on your LOCAL find!!!!! Wish I could help with an ID but the material of that blade looks awesome. Keep it up :icon_thumright:

That’s a lot of pottery you found. Even a drilled piece at that. On the point or tip of a point I should say. Seeing it’s missing the base it would be almost impossible to say what the type is. All periods used a different base style and seeing it’s missing it probably won’t be able to give the type. If it was found in the same layer as the pottery you could date it by the age of the sherds. Then go through a I.D. Book and try to match it to the other ones from the same period. Thanks for posting your finds

Nice finds I agree with the others the base missing probably never know, pottery would put you woodland to historic, I’d say you have a deer tooth, and the drilled pottery is a pretty interesting get, the other bone is tougher but if you got a deer tooth probably a deer long bone

oops didnt notice the size, nvm on the deer

Thanks for the replies and insight on the point tip.
It all helps me learn if I can remember it all. LOL.

For grins and yucks here is an image of the "European" items found. I'll start a thread for them as well since the glazed pottery/porcelain is interesting.

ps. I think the Pull tab is Pabst Blue Ribbon, 1972 :laughing7:

The wavy edge of your piece means it was not finished. When a point is finished it will have a straight edge that is thin like a feather with no waviness.

Thank you. A nice little nugget of information I didn't know but, hopefully, will remember.
